TLDR Thyme oil may effectively treat human demodicosis.
The study investigated the effects of various essential oils on the lifespan of Demodex mites in vitro, focusing on their potential as treatments for ocular demodicosis. It was found that a 1% concentration of thyme oil was more effective in killing mites than 5% concentrations of tea tree oil and sage oil, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.0001). The active ingredient in thyme oil, carvacrol, was identified as a key component. The results suggested that thyme oil could be a promising alternative treatment for human demodicosis.
