TLDR Bupropion may help treat trichotillomania when fluoxetine doesn't work.
A 23-year-old woman with trichotillomania, unresponsive to fluoxetine, showed significant improvement in hair-pulling behavior after being treated with bupropion (up to 450 mg/day) and cognitive behavior therapy. The improvement persisted over a 12-month follow-up, suggesting bupropion as a potential alternative treatment for trichotillomania, particularly for those not responding to SSRIs. Further research, including double-blind placebo-controlled trials, was recommended to confirm these findings.
