TLDR Botanical extracts can protect and repair bleached hair.
The study investigated the effects of three botanical extracts on chemically damaged hair, specifically hair that was bleached. The research demonstrated that bleaching increased hair fiber permeability and negatively affected mechanical properties. However, applying botanical extracts improved these properties by reducing fiber permeability, coating the fibers, and increasing their crystalline material. The study concluded that botanical actives based on proteins and peptides, sulfated polysaccharides, or a combination of polysaccharides could effectively protect and repair hair fibers.
