TLDR Women with early-onset baldness should be checked for early bone loss, but bone density doesn't change with baldness severity.
In 2018, a study was conducted on 106 women aged 18-50 with early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) to investigate the relationship between AGA and bone mineral density (BMD), and its correlation with hair loss stages. The results showed that osteopenia and osteoporosis were detected in 34.90%, 36.79%, and 23.58% of subjects in the femur-neck, total hip, and lumbar spine regions, respectively. However, there was no significant difference in BMD according to hair loss stages. The study concluded that women with early-onset AGA should be thoroughly investigated for the possibility of premature bone loss.
