TLDR Low vitamin C caused bleeding and corkscrew hair, resolved with vitamin C treatment.
An 18-year-old Thai man with transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia and iron overload presented with ecchymosis and corkscrew hairs, which were linked to scurvy due to extremely low vitamin C levels (<0.1 mg/L). His condition was likely exacerbated by low fruit and vegetable intake and oxidative stress from iron overload. Despite normal coagulation factors and platelet function, he exhibited superficial dermal hemorrhage and kinking hairs. Intravenous vitamin C treatment resolved his symptoms, highlighting the importance of adequate vitamin C intake in patients with similar conditions.
