TLDR Thicker hair is stronger, regardless of age, gender, or other factors.
The study investigated the mechanical properties of anagen hair from 120 volunteers, focusing on factors such as hair diameter, gender, age, strain, drug use, and hair dye usage. It found that hair with a diameter of 51 μm and above had significantly higher break force compared to hair with a diameter of 50 μm and below. There was no significant correlation between break force and strain, age, gender, hair dye usage, or drug use. However, a significant correlation was found between hair diameter and strain. The study suggested that further research on the mechanical properties of human hair, considering biological properties like protein structure and keratin fibers, could aid dermatologists in diagnostics.
