TLDR Low calcium levels and dietary issues are linked to hair loss, suggesting a combined Ayurvedic and nutritional approach for prevention.
This study investigates the correlation between Ayurvedic etiological factors (hetus) and biochemical parameters in Khalitya (hair loss) through a cross-sectional analysis of 40 participants. It integrates classical Ayurvedic concepts with modern biochemical assessments, focusing on serum calcium and phosphorus levels. The study found that 55% of participants had below-reference serum calcium levels, while phosphorus levels were normal. Frequent Ayurvedic hetus included Viruddha Ahara, Lavana Rasa Atisevana, and Kshara Atisevana. The findings highlight the connection between Asthi Dhatu and hair physiology, emphasizing the importance of addressing dietary incompatibilities and calcium insufficiency. The study advocates for an integrative prevention approach, combining Ayurvedic principles with nutritional and scalp health practices, and suggests further research with expanded biochemical profiling and larger participant cohorts.
