TLDR Pseudomonas DL17 can completely break down the harmful dye Sunset Yellow FCF in 48 hours.
The study investigated the bio-catalytic degradation of the environmental contaminant Sunset Yellow FCF using the alkaliphile Pseudomonas DL17, isolated from Lonar Lake. Sunset Yellow FCF, a dye used in food industries, posed health risks such as hepatotoxicity, genotoxicity, and hair loss. The research demonstrated that 600 mg/L of Sunset Yellow FCF was completely degraded within 48 hours at an optimal pH of 9.00. The degradation process resulted in the formation of catabolites such as 4-aminonaphthalene-5,6 diol and catechol, confirmed by GCMS analysis. The study concluded that Pseudomonas DL17 played a significant role in the biomineralization of Sunset Yellow FCF.
