TLDR Topical minoxidil 1% and 2% are twice as effective as placebo for female pattern hair loss.
A 2016 review of 47 studies found that topical minoxidil 1% and 2% were twice as effective as placebo in improving hair growth for female pattern hair loss, with no added benefit from the 5% concentration. Finasteride was not found to be more effective than placebo. The review noted that the studies were of moderate to low quality with incomplete information on randomization, blinding procedures, and outcome data.

community I am actually regrowing my hairline without minoxidil or finasteride (mechanical stimulation)

       129 upvotes 6 years ago
Regrowing hairline without the use of Minoxidil or Finasteride, and instead using mechanical stimulation such as Derma Roller, Nizoral, Zinc Pyrithione, Scalp Massage, Scalp Exercise, Fish Oil and other topical solutions. It is cautioned that there are risks associated with not using medically-prescribed treatments, but it is suggested to consider mechanical stimulation in addition to those prescribed treatments.
