TLDR Hair loss after weight loss surgery can improve over time.
A 24-year-old woman with obesity related to polycystic ovarian syndrome experienced significant hair loss, known as telogen effluvium, seven weeks after undergoing bariatric surgery. This hair loss can occur acutely within the first three months post-surgery, or chronically six months after due to nutritional deficiencies. The causes of hair loss in bariatric patients can be multiple. However, the woman's hair loss decreased 11 months after the surgery, and substantial new hair growth was observed 14 months post-surgery. The paper introduces the term "Bar SITE" to describe bariatric surgery-induced telogen effluvium.
