TLDR Higher zinc intake may reduce hair loss after bariatric surgery.
The study investigated the occurrence of alopecia in women with severe and morbid obesity who underwent bariatric surgery. It was conducted by researchers from the Universidad de Chile under the FONDECYT program. The findings suggested that hair loss was a common issue following bariatric surgery in this population. The research highlighted the need for further studies to understand the underlying mechanisms and to develop strategies to prevent or mitigate alopecia in these patients.
