TLDR Ayurvedic treatment helped a woman with PCOS resume regular periods and improve symptoms without side effects.
This document presents a case report of a 24-year-old woman with secondary amenorrhea due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), who experienced adverse effects from conventional hormonal treatments, including mood swings, headaches, excessive sweating, hair loss, and weight gain. After discontinuing allopathic medication, she underwent Ayurvedic treatment for Nashtartava, which included purificatory procedures like Vamana, Virechana, and Vasthi. Following the Ayurvedic treatment, the patient resumed menstruation with cycles occurring at intervals of 35–37 days and also showed improvement in mood swings, headaches, and facial hair growth, without any adverse effects. This case highlights the potential of Ayurvedic management in treating secondary amenorrhea associated with PCOS.
