TLDR Baricitinib effectively improved both atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata symptoms in a patient.
A 31-year-old man with severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and multilocular alopecia areata (AA) showed significant improvement after switching from dupilumab to baricitinib treatment. Despite previous ineffective treatments, baricitinib, a JAK inhibitor, led to marked improvement in AD symptoms and hair regrowth in AA areas within 4 weeks, with sustained progress at 12 weeks. The case highlights baricitinib's efficacy in treating both AD and AA, conditions linked by shared immunological pathways, and underscores the potential of JAK inhibitors in managing diverse immunomediated diseases. Baricitinib was well tolerated, with only mild seborrhea reported as a side effect.
