TLDR The Araz River is clean in Turkey but polluted near Armenia.
The study conducted a detailed microbiological examination of the Araz River within Turkey's borders, focusing on its seasonal variations. Researchers collected 286 water and sediment samples from 16-17 key locations, including major tributaries like Pasinçay, Qərbi Arpaçay, and Karsçay. The study found that while the Araz River remained clean within Turkey's territory up to the borders with neighboring countries, localized pollution was noted near settlements and livestock farms at the Armenia border. However, the river's ecological stability was restored within 18-20 km downstream. In contrast, significant pollution was detected in the river's course through Armenia.
