TLDR Anxiety about Omicron was higher in China than in North America and Western Europe.
The study conducted by Shan et al. in 2022 analyzed anxiety levels related to the fear of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in China compared to North America and Western Europe. Using the generalized anxiety disorder 7-item questionnaire, the researchers found that anxiety levels were significantly higher in China. The cross-sectional analysis employed Kendall’s tau-b to assess the correlation between fear of Omicron and anxiety levels. The findings suggested that cultural and regional differences might have influenced the heightened anxiety observed in the Chinese population during the Omicron outbreak.
