TLDR Solanum nigrum shows promise for treating COVID-19 and its complications, but more research is needed.
The review explores the potential of Solanum nigrum L., an edible plant, as a therapeutic candidate for COVID-19 and its post-complications due to its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. The plant's phytochemicals, such as polysaccharides and flavonoids, have shown promise in reducing inflammation, inhibiting viral replication, and managing post-COVID complications like lung injury and respiratory disorders. Despite its traditional medicinal use and promising in vitro and in vivo results, further systematic research is necessary to validate its efficacy and safety in clinical settings. The review underscores the need for more studies to establish Solanum nigrum as a viable treatment option for COVID-19 and its long-term effects.
