TLDR Eclipta alba extract reduces ulcers and protects the stomach in rats.
The study investigated the antisecretory and gastroprotective effects of Eclipta alba Linn. extract in rats. Eclipta alba extract (EAE) was administered at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, showing a dose-dependent reduction in ulcer lesions in rats subjected to cold restraint stress and pylorus ligation. The extract significantly increased gastric wall mucus production and reduced gastric volume and acid output, while increasing gastric pH. Antioxidant effects were observed, with reduced lipid peroxidation and altered enzyme activities. The study concluded that Eclipta alba extract had potent antisecretory and gastroprotective properties, potentially mediated by free radical scavenging activity.
