TLDR Alcoholic extract of Eclipta alba may help treat allergies and is safe at high doses.
The study from 2009 investigated the antianaphylactic effects of an alcoholic extract of Eclipta alba (AEEA) at doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg in animal models. It found that AEEA had a dose-dependent beneficial effect on mast cell degranulation, reduced leakage of Evans blue dye in rat skin, decreased paw swelling in rat paw anaphylaxis, and lowered histamine levels and eosinophil counts in guinea pig lungs. These effects were comparable to standard drugs and suggest that AEEA could be a potential treatment for allergic disorders. The extract was safe up to 5000 mg/kg in mice and contained various active compounds. The study involved groups of 6 animals in each experimental setup.
