TLDR Compounds from Monascus purpureus showed mild antifungal effects.
The study investigated the chemical constituents of the mangrove-derived fungus Monascus purpureus wmd2424, leading to the isolation of five new compounds, monascuspurins A–E. These compounds were identified using HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopy. The antifungal activity of these compounds was tested, revealing that compounds 3–5 exhibited mild antifungal effects against Aspergillus niger, Penicillium italicum, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This research marks the first study of the chemical composition of the Monascus purpureus wmd2424 strain.
