TLDR Phenolic compounds from Quercus acutissima leaves, especially casuarinin, may help treat acne.
The study explores the antiacne and anti-inflammatory effects of phenolic compounds from Quercus acutissima Carruth. leaves, identifying six compounds, including hyperoside and casuarinin. These compounds showed strong antioxidant activities, with pedunculagin and casuarinin outperforming L-ascorbic acid in DPPH radical scavenging. Importantly, they inhibited acne-related proteins like IL-1β, NLRP3, and 5α-reductase type 1 without cytotoxic effects on RAW 264.7 cells. Casuarinin and QGG were particularly effective against NLRP3, while pedunculagin targeted 5α-R1. These findings indicate potential for developing acne treatments with these phenolic compounds.
