TLDR Recognizing congenital triangular alopecia is crucial to avoid unnecessary treatments.
The study discussed a case of a 20-year-old woman with congenital triangular alopecia (CTA) presenting as a single circular to oval hair-loss area in the mid-frontal region of her scalp, challenging the common belief that CTA only occurs in the frontotemporal region. The authors highlighted that CTA is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, leading to an underestimation of its incidence. They emphasized the importance of recognizing this rare condition to avoid unnecessary medical treatments, noting that about 170 cases of CTA had been reported to date.
