TLDR Potassium iodide prevents hair loss and reduces toxicity from thallium acetate.
The study investigates the antagonistic effect of potassium iodide on hair loss induced by thallium acetate in rats. Six groups of rats were used, with three groups receiving only thallium acetate and the other three receiving both thallium acetate and potassium iodide. The rats that received only thallium acetate lost most of their hair within 35 days, while those that also received potassium iodide retained their hair. Additionally, the mortality rate was lower in the groups treated with potassium iodide, suggesting that potassium iodide reduces the toxicity of thallium acetate.
