The study investigated the relationship between androgen receptor gene polymorphism, specifically CAG-repeat length, and prostate zonal volumes in 50 Chinese men and 50 Australian men. It found that Australian men had larger central and total prostate volumes compared to Chinese men, even after adjusting for body size differences. However, there was no difference in CAG-repeat length between the two groups, and no correlation was found between CAG repeats and prostate volume or hormone levels. DHT concentration was lower in Chinese men, but this difference was not significant after adjusting for prostate size. The study concluded that CAG repeat polymorphism and central-prostate zone volume were not reliable markers of long-term androgen sensitivity, highlighting the need for a suitable marker for clinical and epidemiologic research.
