TLDR Some alternative therapies for vitiligo show promise but need more research.
The document reviewed various alternative therapies for vitiligo, noting mixed results across different treatments. Heliotherapy and UVB radiation showed promise, with 57% of patients achieving significant repigmentation using 311 nm UVB. Human placental extracts like Melagenina and khellin showed potential but had inconsistent results. Nutritional approaches addressing deficiencies in vitamins B₁₂, folic acid, and vitamin C achieved significant repigmentation in some cases. Antioxidants and immunomodulators had limited success, while topical treatments like fluorouracil combined with dermabrasion had a 64% success rate. Laser treatments and some folk remedies also showed varying degrees of success. Overall, the efficacy of these therapies varied, and many required combination with other treatments for better outcomes. Further research was needed to validate their efficacy and safety.
