TLDR Scalp cooling effectively prevents hair loss during chemotherapy in most cases.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of the Orbis II scalp cooling device in preventing chemotherapy-induced alopecia in 51 patients with various cancer types. Conducted from June 2022 to May 2023, the study found that scalp hypothermia was effective in preventing severe alopecia in 73% of cases, with the majority of procedures performed on female patients with breast, ovarian, and cervix cancers. The results suggest that scalp cooling is an effective method for alopecia prevention during chemotherapy, though further research with larger patient populations is needed to better understand factors influencing its effectiveness.
