TLDR Alopecia in transgender individuals on hormone therapy can worsen emotional distress and affect self-esteem.
This study explores the under-researched topic of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in transgender individuals undergoing hormone therapy. It highlights that AGA can be a significant adverse effect, particularly for transgender men using testosterone, exacerbating emotional distress due to its impact on body image. The study emphasizes the need for more research and discussion on this issue, as it poses an additional challenge for a population already facing social stigmas, potentially hindering their gender affirmation process. The research aims to contribute to a multidisciplinary debate to improve treatment conditions for those affected by this condition, which significantly impacts self-esteem and quality of life.
