    Vicky Yu and colleagues found that toxic metals such as thallium, arsenic, selenium, and mercury were common but often neglected causes of alopecia areata in both men and women. They also suggested that dermatologists should consider cadmium, bismuth, lithium, and copper as potential contributors to metals-related alopecia.
