TLDR More research is needed to confirm if laser therapy effectively treats hair loss.
In recent years, some studies suggested the use of laser therapy as a potential treatment for hair loss in both men and women, with varying results depending on the type of alopecia and the laser used. This literature review examined original articles from databases like Medline, Cochrane, and NBCI, as well as medical publications on the Internet over the past ten years, focusing on laser or photoluminescent treatments for androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata. Out of 78 initial articles, only 14 met the inclusion criteria for the review. These articles were analyzed for their clinical applicability and the biological mechanisms by which laser phototherapy might induce hair regeneration were discussed. The review concluded that controlled studies with larger sample sizes were necessary to determine the true effectiveness of this new treatment in the general population.
