TLDR Onions from Gilgit grow larger and heavier than those from Hunza.
The study focused on the growth dynamics of onions (Allium cepa) in Hunza and Gilgit districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It found that onions from Gilgit exhibited greater growth metrics compared to those from Hunza. Specifically, the mean leaf length, width, and area in Gilgit were 25.05 cm, 0.59 cm, and 10.1 cm², respectively, while in Hunza, these were 14.88 cm, 0.43 cm, and 9.0 cm². The growth rate of leaf length in Gilgit was 97.64% faster than its width, and bulb growth was 59.2% faster than in Hunza, resulting in larger and heavier bulbs. The study concluded that onions from Gilgit had superior growth characteristics, with a mean bulb weight of 16.25g compared to 9.62g in Hunza.
