TLDR Person-to-person hair transplants can work for patients on lifelong immunosuppression, with high hair growth success.
The document reports a successful case of allogeneic hair transplantation, where hair grafts from another person were used, in a 60-year-old man who had received a kidney transplant 20 years prior. The patient, suffering from severe baldness, had not responded to other treatments. Due to his extensive baldness and his ongoing immunosuppressive therapy (to prevent kidney rejection), hair from his kidney donor was used for the transplant. Using the follicular unit excision (FUE) method, 2,350 follicular units were transplanted from the kidney donor to the patient. The procedure was well-tolerated, and the patient showed an 85% yield of hair growth at 9 months. The study suggests that person-to-person hair transplantation could be a viable option for patients requiring lifelong immunosuppressive therapy, potentially benefiting a broader population.
