TLDR Men who start puberty later may have lower sperm quality and different hormone levels in adulthood.
The study investigated the association between age at puberty and semen quality and reproductive hormones in 320 young adult men. It found that later pubertal development was linked to lower semen quality and altered reproductive hormones. Specifically, men who experienced pubertal milestones after 15 years of age had significantly lower sperm concentration, total sperm count, and testosterone levels compared to those who developed before 13 years of age. The findings suggested that delayed puberty might negatively impact male reproductive health, highlighting the importance of considering pubertal timing in fertility assessments.
