Simple Method for Aesthetic Symmetrical Post-Burn Reconstruction of the Temporal and Sideburn Subunits

    Mohamed Saleh
TLDR The method effectively restores symmetrical and natural-looking hair in burn-affected areas.
The study presented a simple method for reconstructing post-burn alopecia in the temporal and sideburn regions using tissue expansion, aiming to achieve satisfactory aesthetic outcomes with symmetry and near-normal hairline reconstruction. Conducted at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, the retrospective analysis included 29 patients aged 6 to 35 years, treated between February 2016 and May 2018. The method was evaluated through both objective and subjective analyses, demonstrating that the aesthetic results were satisfactory, symmetrical, and standardized, addressing a gap in previous literature that often overlooked the importance of hairline pattern and symmetry in these critical zones.

Hair loss in women is complex to diagnose and treat, and hair restoration should be done by experts. Using minoxidil before surgery can help manage post-surgery hair shock loss. The Follicular Unit Transplantation method is recommended for women due to its speed, no need for shaving, and better graft quality. Strategies like L, T, and reverse L patterns can help restore central hair density, and regenerative methods can improve graft survival in hair transplants.
