TLDR The method for sideburn reconstruction was safe and effective, giving natural-looking hair with minimal scarring.
Between August 2011 and April 2012, 11 patients (8 males and 3 females, aged 7 to 43 years) underwent sideburn reconstruction using an expanded temporoparieto-occipital scalp flap. The technique provided satisfactory hair direction, inconspicuous scars at both donor and recipient sites, and minimal complications. The flap was based on the parietal branch of the superficial temporal vessels and designed to match the natural hair flow. Post-surgery, the hair color, density, and texture in the reconstructed sideburns were satisfactory, with no major complications reported. The method was considered safe, simple, and effective for achieving proper hair density and direction with inconspicuous scarring.
