TLDR New treatments for skin diseases in 1979 showed promising results with fewer side effects.
The document discussed several advances in topical therapy for skin diseases as of 1979. It highlighted that the new corticosteroid fluocortin butyl ester had anti-inflammatory effects similar to hydrocortisone acetate but without systemic side effects. Significant progress in acne treatment was achieved with Vitamin A acid and benzoyl peroxide. For chloasma and hyperpigmentations, a combination of Vitamin A acid, hydroquinone, and a corticoid was more effective than individual components. Povidone-iodine was noted for its low sensitization rate in antimicrobial treatment. Extensive precancerous lesions were effectively treated with 5-fluorouracil. Additionally, new hair growth in alopecia areata could be induced by the local application of DNCB.
