TLDR New treatments for skin diseases in 1979 showed promising results with fewer side effects.
The document discussed several advances in topical therapy for skin diseases as of 1979. Fluocortin butyl ester was found to have anti-inflammatory effects similar to hydrocortisone acetate but without systemic side effects. Vitamin A acid and benzoyl peroxide significantly improved acne treatment. A combination of vitamin A acid, hydroquinone, and a corticoid was more effective for treating chloasma and hyperpigmentations than any single component. Povidone-iodine was useful for antimicrobial treatment due to its low sensitization rate. 5-fluorouracil effectively treated extensive or multiple precancerous lesions. Additionally, new hair growth in alopecia areata could be induced by the local application of DNCB.
