TLDR Hair science has grown significantly, focusing on conditions like alopecia and improving treatments and techniques.
Over the past 30 years, Hair Science has significantly expanded, with a fivefold increase in alopecia research from 1994 to 2023. Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) is a major focus, often affecting the frontotemporal scalp and other body areas, with treatments like 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors showing some success. Other conditions such as alopecia areata and post-COVID telogen effluvium are also under intense study. Advances in hair follicle understanding and diagnostic techniques have improved hair disease management, while Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) has become the preferred method in hair restoration surgery. The Brazilian Journal of Hair Health (BJHH) has been established to meet the growing demand for a dedicated platform to share scientific knowledge in hair health, reflecting Brazil's increasing specialization in trichology and hair therapy. BJHH aims to publish a wide range of contributions, enhancing the global scientific community's understanding of hair health.
