TLDR Acupuncture is more effective than medication for treating alopecia areata.
The study observed the clinical effects of acupuncture therapy for alopecia areata by randomly dividing 78 patients into two groups: 43 received acupuncture and plum-blossom needle therapy, while 35 received oral Cystine tablets, Vit B1, and topical Minoxidil Solution. After 4 months, the treatment group showed a curative effect and total effective rate of 58.1% and 97.7%, respectively, compared to 34.3% and 77.1% in the control group. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), concluding that acupuncture was more effective than medication for treating alopecia areata.
