TLDR Acupressure improves quality of life in PCOS patients.
The study aimed to evaluate the impact of acupressure on the quality of life in 96 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at a clinic in Iran. It was a double-blind, randomized clinical trial where participants were divided into an intervention group, which received acupressure at specific points (Ren3, Ren4, Liv3, Sp6, and Sp10), and a control group, which received pressure on sham points, over a period of 6 weeks with 2 sessions per week. The primary outcome was measured using the modified PCOS health-related quality of life questionnaire (MPCOSQ), while secondary outcomes included total testosterone levels and clinical symptoms. Measurements were taken at baseline and 12 weeks post-intervention. Results showed that at week 18, the intervention group had significantly lower clinical symptoms and total testosterone levels, and higher health-related quality of life scores compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The study concluded that acupressure at the specified points is an effective treatment for improving the quality of life in patients with PCOS.
