Acne: An Approach to Therapy for the Pediatrician

    Walter W. Tunnessen
TLDR Pediatricians can effectively treat most acne cases with the right knowledge and patient involvement.
Acne was a common issue during adolescence, and advancements in medications had enhanced treatment effectiveness by 1984. Pediatricians were encouraged to manage most acne cases without needing to refer patients to dermatologists. Although the exact cause of acne was unknown, understanding the contributing factors allowed for a more rational treatment approach. Effective treatment required knowledge of different acne lesions and appropriate medications, as well as engaging the patient in the treatment process to improve compliance and outcomes.
