TLDR Finasteride effectively treats acne, especially severe cases, with low recurrence rates.
The study retrospectively evaluated 166 acne patients to determine factors influencing acne severity, including age, gender, family history, and BMI. The average age of onset was 17 for males and 20 for females, with acne severity tending to be mild as patients aged. The study found a significant difference in acne severity related to BMI, particularly in the 18.5-23.9 range. Finasteride was effective in treating acne, especially severe cases, with improvement rates of 47.2%, 62.9%, and 64.0% after 4, 8, and 12 weeks, respectively, and low recurrence rates. The study concluded that while BMI had a minor influence, finasteride was a beneficial treatment for acne.
