TLDR Endometriosis causes abdominal-pelvic pain, and while surgery and treatments help, pain often persists.
The review discussed that abdominal-pelvic pain was a primary symptom of endometriosis, a common and multifactorial disorder in women. Exploratory laparoscopy was the gold standard for diagnosing the location, severity, and extent of lesions. The intensity of pain did not consistently correlate with the disease's stage. Laparoscopic surgical treatment aimed to excise ectopic endometrium to control pain and improve life quality, though pain sometimes persisted post-surgery. Pre- and post-operative medical treatments were used to manage symptoms and prolong asymptomatic periods. Nutritional education was emphasized to help reduce the risk or potentially regress endometrial pathology. Despite these treatments, endometriosis remained a significant challenge due to persistent pain and ongoing research into its pathogenic mechanisms.
