TLDR 2% topical minoxidil is safe and reduces hair shedding in Chinese men with male pattern baldness.
The study investigated the safety and efficacy of 2% topical minoxidil in 40 Chinese patients with male pattern baldness over an average of 9.6 months. Moderate hair growth was observed in 22% of participants, while 59% experienced minimal growth. All patients reported a decrease in hair shedding within 1 to 3 months of treatment. Two patients experienced scalp dryness and mild scaling, but these side effects were tolerable. No systemic adverse effects were detected through various medical tests. The efficacy was lower compared to studies in the United States, possibly due to irregular application by some patients and stricter evaluation standards. Despite this, the treatment was considered safe and effective in reducing hair shedding.
