- Is saw palmetto as effective as finasteride against DHT? Finasteride is more effective than saw palmetto in reducing DHT levels.
- Is it better to take saw palmetto in capsules or use it in lotions? The evidence does not show one form is better: the only head-to-head hair study of oral saw palmetto compared it with finasteride (and finasteride did better), the topical evidence is a single uncontrolled pilot, and there is no trial comparing capsules with lotions.
- Is saw palmetto good for androgenetic alopecia or only for mild hair loss? Saw palmetto may help with androgenetic alopecia, not just mild hair loss.
