Whether either drug suits you is a decision for a prescriber: finasteride is prescription-only in most countries, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must not take it or handle broken or crushed tablets, because it can harm a male fetus. Finasteride's label lists sexual side effects, including reports of these continuing after the drug is stopped; depression and suicidal thoughts are also listed (US Propecia label, DailyMed). The UK regulator (MHRA, May 2026) advises stopping finasteride 1 mg immediately and contacting a doctor if depression or suicidal thoughts develop.
