- Does castor oil make hair grow or is it just a myth? There is no published human trial showing castor oil grows hair. It can make hair look and feel better by reducing breakage and adding shine, which is easily mistaken for growth, and it is not approved anywhere as a hair loss treatment.
- Castor oil: How do you use it without ending up with greasy hair for days? Use a pea-sized amount of warmed castor oil to avoid greasy hair.
- Castor oil: Does it help restore lost hair or just strengthen existing hair? Castor oil primarily strengthens existing hair rather than restoring lost hair.
- Does any castor oil work or do you have to look for a special one? Cold-pressed castor oil is generally more effective for hair growth than others.
- Castor oil: Can I mix it with minoxidil or finasteride, or will they fight each other? No study has tested castor oil together with minoxidil or finasteride. Oral finasteride works systemically and is not expected to be affected, but a thick oil left on the scalp could change how much minoxidil is absorbed, so the common advice is to keep the two applications hours apart and to ask a doctor or pharmacist first.
