    Did you mean Poisson's ratio?
    GlossaryPoisson's ratio

measure of material's perpendicular deformation to applied force

Poisson's ratio is a measure of how much a material deforms in directions perpendicular to the direction of applied force. When you stretch a rubber band, for example, it not only gets longer but also gets thinner. Poisson's ratio quantifies this thinning effect. For most materials, this ratio is between 0 and 0.5, where a value of 0.5 means the material volume remains constant during deformation.
