research Gender-Based Price Differences in 5% Minoxidil Foam: The Impact of Generic Alternatives and Bulk Packaging
The study of 41 products of 5% minoxidil foam revealed gender-based pricing disparities, with female-marketed products being more expensive than male-marketed ones, averaging $26.78 per bottle and $12.68 per ounce for females, compared to $22.08 per bottle and $10.46 per ounce for males. Female-marketed products were often sold in single-bottle packages, while male-marketed ones were available in cost-saving multi-bottle bundles. However, generic options showed no significant price difference between genders, indicating that generic and bulk packaging could help reduce these disparities. The study emphasizes the importance of patient education on packaging language and the need for broader availability of bulk packaging for female-marketed products to address these pricing issues.
