    GlossaryImmunosuppression

reduction of immune system activity or effectiveness

Immunosuppression, also known as immune suppression, refers to the reduction of the activation or efficacy of the immune system. This can be a deliberate process, such as when medications are used to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted organ, or it can occur as a side effect of treatments like chemotherapy. It can also result from certain diseases that inherently weaken the immune response.
