TLDR Vitamins and minerals don't significantly affect hair loss treatment in patients with telogen effluvium.
The paper "Uso de vitaminas e minerais no eflúvio telógeno: uma revisão" discusses the role of vitamins and minerals in patients with telogen effluvium, a common type of hair loss. The study found that most patients with this condition have deficiencies in iron and zinc. Some patients also showed a deficiency in biotin, but the evidence for this is not strong. A large percentage of patients were deficient in vitamin D, while a smaller percentage had a vitamin B12 deficiency. The study also found that patients with telogen effluvium often have decreased ferritin levels. However, no relationship was found between hair loss and deficiencies in vitamin A, vitamin E, folic acid, and selenium. Some patients also had severe protein deficiencies and a greater deficit of amino acids. Despite these findings, the study concluded that supplementation with vitamins and minerals does not have a significant impact on the treatment of hair loss, but further studies are needed.
