TLDR Taking too much vitamin A can cause health problems like bone pain and hair loss.
This chapter provided an overview of the adverse effects of vitamins. It reported hypercalcemia in a patient who ingested high doses of vitamin A for a year. Hair loss was observed in psoriatic patients treated with Ro 10–9359, typically occurring in the 5th to 8th week after a total dose of 1.9 g retinoid, with improvement seen after reducing or stopping treatment. Severe psoriatic patients experienced side effects like cheilitis, palmoplantar scaling, hyperhidrosis, and diffuse hair loss. Vitamin B6 showed both dopamine-enhancing and blocking properties, reversing the therapeutic effect of dopamine in Parkinson's disease at doses of 10–20 mg. Vitamin D intoxication appeared sporadically, especially in patients treated for hypoparathyroidism, renal osteodystrophy, vitamin D-dependent rickets, and osteomalacia.
