TLDR Vibration treatment may reduce migraine pain by changing cell structures.
The study explored how epithelial cells respond to external vibration, hypothesizing that it alters proteins involved in cytoskeleton remodeling. After exposing epithelial cell lines to 15 minutes of vibration, researchers observed retraction of filopodia and concentration of actin at the cell periphery. This was accompanied by increased expression of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease. These findings suggested that vibration-induced cell transitions could explain the pain reduction observed in migraine patients undergoing vibrational treatment.
